Inspired Entertainment Fully Launches in Alberta's New iGaming Market

B2B company Inspired Entertainment has started in Alberta's newly regulated iGaming market. Twelve licensed operators have been offering the games since day one.
Inspired Entertainment, a Nasdaq-listed provider of gaming content and technology, has officially launched its online slots in Alberta's newly regulated iGaming market. This move significantly expands the company's footprint in North America. On the first day of the market opening, Inspired Entertainment's games were already available through over a dozen leading operators.
This market entry is a strategically important step for Inspired Entertainment. The company has previously been active in the province, but only through the government-run Play Alberta portal. With the new license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), Inspired can now make its offerings accessible to a broader audience.
Numbers and facts
Inspired Entertainment launched in Alberta on July 13, the official opening day of the market. According to the company's press release, the games are offered through twelve licensed operators. These include well-known brands such as bet365, DraftKings, BetMGM, FanDuel, Caesars Palace, BetRivers, Golden Nugget, Sports Interaction, The Score, PartyPoker, Betty, and Stardust Casino. In addition, the government-run Play Alberta portal remains a distribution channel. The AGLC had already granted Inspired Entertainment approval as an iGaming Goods or Services Supplier earlier this year.
Other major providers such as Pragmatic Play have also entered the market simultaneously. This underscores Alberta's importance as a new growth market. Pragmatic Play now offers its portfolio of premium slots and its live casino there. FanDuel and DraftKings had already detailed their market entry plans in advance and announced local charitable initiatives. FanDuel, for example, donated C$50,000 to the 'A Dollar A Day Foundation' and C$30,000 to the 'Canadian Red Cross' Alberta Emergency Management Program.' DraftKings supported 'Food Banks Alberta' with C$150,000 for the purchase of food items.
Background
Alberta is the second Canadian province, after Ontario, to introduce a competitive iGaming framework. The market launch followed years of policy discussions and months of preparation by regulators, operators, and suppliers. In Canada, 'iGaming' includes both online sports betting and online casino games. The introduction of a regulated, commercial market allows players in Alberta to choose from a significantly wider range of providers.
Brooks Pierce, President and CEO of Inspired, expressed his pleasure at this milestone: > „The launch of Alberta's regulated competitive market represents an important milestone for the Canadian gaming industry, and we are excited to see our content available across multiple licensed operators from day one. North America remains a significant growth market for Inspired, and this launch further expands the reach of our online gaming portfolio.“ - Brooks Pierce, President and Chief Executive Officer at Inspired
The expansion is part of Inspired Entertainment's North American growth strategy. Previously, the company had only been active in Alberta through the government-operated Play Alberta portal. The new license now allows for broader distribution of content through a commercial ecosystem.
Why it matters for German players
For German players, Inspired Entertainment's Canadian market launch has no direct impact on the availability of gaming offerings. Nevertheless, it demonstrates the dynamic development of the global online gambling market. In Germany, the market has been strictly regulated since the State Treaty on Gambling (GlüStV 2021). Players can only gamble with online gambling providers that hold a German license from the Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL).
These German licensees are bound by strict requirements. These include a stake limit of one euro per spin on slot machines and a monthly deposit limit of 1,000 euros, which is monitored via the central LUGAS system. Live casino games with random number generators are also not permitted. Only online poker and sports betting may, if at all, offer a live format. Players in Germany should therefore always look for the GGL seal. This is the only way to ensure that the strict German youth and player protection measures are adhered to. Providers without a German license do not offer a legally secure gaming environment and can have serious disadvantages.
What it means for GGL-licensed casinos
The developments in Alberta underscore the global trend towards regulating online gambling. Although the details of regulation vary from country to country, the goal is often the same: to ensure player protection and channel the market. For GGL-licensed casinos in Germany, this means operating within a clearly defined and secure framework. This builds trust among players and a stable business foundation for providers. The high requirements of the GGL ensure fairness and transparency, ultimately benefiting all involved.
However, the strict regulation in Germany also limits the variety of games offered. For example, live dealer games, such as those offered in Alberta or other international markets, are not permitted in German online slot halls. German players must adhere to narrowly defined rules. A look at other regulated markets shows, however, that Germany can certainly be considered a pioneer in player protection with its comprehensive protective measures. It is a balancing act between an attractive offer and high player protection.
