Michigan Online-Glücksspiel bricht im Oktober 2025 alle Rekorde

Michigan's online gambling industry reported record-breaking figures in October 2025. Gross iGaming receipts reached $278.5 million, surpassing the previous high from August 2025.

Michigan's online gambling industry once again surpassed its own benchmark in October 2025. Commercial and tribal internet gaming (iGaming) and online sports betting operators collectively generated $352.3 million in gross receipts. This represents a remarkable 16.4 percent increase compared to the previous month, September.

Within this impressive sum, iGaming receipts particularly stand out, reaching $278.5 million in October. This significantly topped the previous record of $263.3 million set in August 2025. Gross sports betting receipts also showed their best performance, climbing to $73.8 million, up from $43.6 million in September. These figures underscore the sustained strong growth of Michigan's digital gambling market.

Numbers and facts

Adjusted Gross Receipts (AGR), which account for promotional spending, reached $310.9 million in October. Of this total, $261.7 million came from iGaming, and $49.2 million from online sports betting. This marks a 7.5 percent increase in iGaming AGR compared to the previous month. Sports betting AGR increased by a substantial $36.0 million compared to September. Year-over-year, iGaming AGR rose by 31.8 percent, while sports betting AGR increased by $39.4 million compared to October 2024. The total internet sports betting handle was $605.9 million in October, a 15.6 percent increase from the $524.3 million recorded in September.

Operators reported submitting $58.0 million in state taxes and payments in October, with $54.6 million from iGaming and $3.4 million from internet sports betting. An additional $15.0 million was paid to the City of Detroit, consisting of $14.0 million from iGaming and $1.0 million from internet sports betting. Tribal operators also made payments of $6.5 million to their respective governing bodies.

For the entire year 2025, total online gambling revenue in Michigan reached a record $3.8 billion, a 29.5 percent increase compared to 2024. Gross iCasino revenue jumped 26.5 percent to $3.1 billion, while gross online sports betting receipts climbed 45.8 percent to $671.3 million. The state's regulatory authorities, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), confirm these figures. Although no direct quote is provided, their published reports clearly reflect significant growth. In December 2025, even higher gross receipts of $399.8 million were achieved, with iCasino revenues setting a new record of $315.8 million.

Background

Michigan has been a regulated market for online gambling and sports betting since January 2021. Since its introduction, revenues have consistently increased. This demonstrates that a regulated market not only offers players a safe environment but also generates significant tax revenue for the state. Competition among providers is fierce. FanDuel and MotorCity led the online casino market with $817.1 million in gross receipts and $768.1 million in adjusted revenue. In sports betting, FanDuel and MotorCity also topped the market with $292.3 million in gross receipts. Detroit casinos reported an annual revenue of $1.3 billion for 2025. MGM Grand Detroit was the overall market leader with a 48 percent share, ahead of MotorCity Casino at 30 percent, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown with 22 percent.

Why it matters for German players

The record figures from Michigan demonstrate that regulated online gambling markets can indeed flourish. For German players, this primarily means that they should rely on the strength of the German Interstate Treaty on Gambling 2021 (GlüStV 2021). This treaty provides a secure and controlled framework. Only casinos licensed by the Joint Gaming Authority of the Federal States (GGL) are legal in Germany. As an experienced casino editor, I recommend players exclusively use providers listed on the GGL whitelist. This ensures that important protective measures, such as the deposit limit of 1,000 euros per month and the stake limit of 1 euro per spin, are adhered to. These limits are designed to provide player protection and prevent excessive gambling. Furthermore, these providers are monitored by the central LUGAS system, which manages gaming breaks and the exclusion of problem gamblers. A safe gaming environment is particularly important to me. The GlüStV 2021 may seem strict, but it protects players and is therefore a good thing.

What it means for GGL-licensed casinos

The experiences from Michigan can serve as an example for GGL-licensed casinos. Stable regulation builds player trust and ensures sustainable growth. The high tax revenues generated in Michigan are a strong argument for gambling authorities worldwide. They demonstrate that transparent and well-thought-out licensing is beneficial for all parties involved. Even if German regulations are stricter with the 1-euro limit per spin and the monthly deposit limit of 1,000 euros, they provide a clear framework. In the long term, stable markets can also develop in Germany that guarantee player protection and offer attractive services. It is foreseeable that the focus on responsible gaming will continue to increase in the future. Germany, much like Michigan, is on a good path here.
